DUBAI: More than 12,000 visitors are expected to congregate at Zabeel Park, Dubai on Friday, June 12, 2015 to observe the first edition of the International Yoga Day, hosted by Dubai Municipality (DM), in coordination with Friends of Yoga. As per the UN General Assembly’s recent resolution the International Yoga Day falls on June 21 globally, but Dubai hosts the event on an earlier date prior to the holy month of Ramadan.
Supported by Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, a number of activities have been lined up to observe the International Day of Yoga on a grand scale. The Municipality offers free entrance to the park in the evening of day for the visitors who show interest in learning the lessons of Yoga and practicing it as part of their lifestyle. The civic body has made extensive arrangements to ensure that over 3,000 people can practice yoga at the park. The International Yoga Day aims to encourage more people and communities to support and experience a life-changing activity. In Dubai, this initiative is expected to witness a significant support by people of all nationalities, as many international communities are its enthusiastic practitioners and followers.
The Yoga Day event will be conducted for the public at the Megabowl in Zabeel Park from 6.30pm to 9.30pm with 40 minutes of Yoga practice and entertainment activities. To participate in the event, Yoga enthusiasts can register online at www.friendsofyogaglobal.org or at a special counter set up at the venue on June 12.
