The Pest Control teams in the Public Health Services Department at Dubai Municipality were serving the public 24 hours a day during the last Eid al-Adha holidays and attended all emergency and non-emergency communications received from the public through the Call Center at Dubai Municipality during this period.
The Public Health Services Department received a total of 135 public communications about insects and reptiles during the Eid holidays. Qualified Pest Control teams in the Department attended 16 emergency cases, two communications on bee insects, 11 on Red or Black Widow spiders and three reports regarding snakes.
Hisham Abdul Rahman Al Yahya, Head of Public Health Pest Control Section said that the communications were divided into two, emergency and non-emergency, noting that emergency communications about snakes, scorpions, bees, wasps and spiders were attended by the department within 24 hours.
He said the department has received nearly 1,081 emergency communications since the beginning of 2016, which includes 278 communications on bees 106 on scorpions, 331 on snakes and 366 on spiders, and the non-emergency communications regarding mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, ants, bed bugs, rats and mice were attended within 48 hours.
With regard to the elimination of domestic insects to achieve a high degree of safety for family members at home, Al Yahya explained that the Pest Control teams in the Section are using pesticides that are safe for the health of the people and modern environmentally-friendly means as per a comprehensive plan to fight the public health pests in the emirate of Dubai.
He reiterated that the technical staff of the Section has been trained by specialists and experts in the Department to maintain health and safety standards in line with Dubai Municipality vision on sustainability of health and happiness in the Emirate of Dubai.
“Dubai Municipality calls upon the citizens and residents to cooperate with the Public Health Pest Control Department to report any pests they notice in their homes by calling 800900 at the Call Center and through smart apps such as Eye of Dubai and also advises the public to maintain public hygiene, which will play a major role in reducing the spread of public health pests,” said Al Yahya.
